Debt Management Agency
If you have decided that debt management is right for you, watch
out. You need to look out for several things while looking for a
debt management agency. There are many companies out there that
would like to scam you, and almost all of them are looking out
for their own interests above yours. If you are not
comfortable doing all your business online, you will want to
make sure you can meet the person handling your debt management
plan (DMP) personally or talk to them over the phone. Make sure
to choose an debt management agency where this is possible. You
will want to make sure you can contact them at a later day if
you have any questions or need to change something on your DMP.
The person handling your DMP should not enroll you simply for
attending a consultation. He or she should wait until you have
learned about the program and signed off on it. If you are
pressured to sign up before you are clear on the details, refuse
and leave.
Check out more than one agency. Compare the various terms and
what they offer. Beware of any claims that sound too good to be
true.
Steer clear of any company that wants to charge you a large
fee, especially if it is up front. It is possible that they will
simply take your money and run. If this happens, you will still
be in the same situation financially, except you will be short
however much you had paid already. The bottom line is that if you are unsure about the debt
management agency you are working with, find another. You can
wait a few days to ensure you have found an agency you can
trust. |
